Overview

The Pop Stand in Harlan, Indiana, is a refreshing spot that combines creativity with comfort in the world of casual dining. Situated conveniently on State Route 37, this local gem started with a quirky idea: elevating classic sodas into flavorful concoctions lovingly called "dirty sodas." From there, the owners expanded their vision to include hand-crafted pizzas, fresh salads, and satisfying grinders, transforming the space into more than just a beverage stop.

The heart of The Pop Stand lies in its thoughtfully made dishes. Their pizzas, like the SR 37, offer a vibrant mix of toppings that reflect the local spirit—a blend of pepperoni, sausage, fresh vegetables, and a hint of garlic and crushed red pepper. The dough is house-made daily, baked swiftly in an 800-degree oven to achieve a light, crispy crust with a pleasant chew. The freshness of the vegetables and the balance of toppings prevent the pie from feeling heavy, inviting you to savor each bite without feeling overwhelmed.

Salads at The Pop Stand stand out as well, with highlights such as the Greek Salad and Cobb Salad that deliver crisp, garden-fresh ingredients paired with dressings like a tangy raspberry vinaigrette, a favorite among visitors. Their slice meals and combos provide accessible choices for those torn between meat and veggie options, perfectly paired with a refreshing small drink.

On the drink front, The Pop Stand dazzles with an inventive range of sweet and creamy beverages as well as uniquely flavored teas and lemonades. Their dirty sodas, such as the Marshmallow Man with root beer, vanilla, and cream, recall the nostalgia of a melted root beer float but with a grown-up twist. The creative flight tasting offers an engaging way to explore their drink lineup without commitment, showing the owners’ commitment to experimentation and guest enjoyment.

The atmosphere matches the care taken in the food and drinks. The interior’s open and bright setup, accented by vintage tin tiles and a coved ceiling, invites diners to linger. The patio area outside is fresh and pet-friendly, shielded from traffic noise, which adds to its welcoming ambiance. The combination of cozy charm and thoughtful design caters to families, couples, and casual diners alike, making it a versatile destination.

Service at The Pop Stand reflects the passion of its owners. Patient and friendly, the team guides guests through the menu with ease and warmth, ensuring a stress-free ordering experience—especially appreciated during busy times. Though the spot is still relatively new, the four-star reviews consistently commend the quality and atmosphere, signaling that this is a place built to last.

Whether you’re in the mood to grab a hearty slice, dive into a fresh salad, or sip on a creatively flavored soda, The Pop Stand delivers with authenticity and care. For anyone journeying through Harlan, it’s a destination worth carving out time for—a fresh take on classic comfort food paired with uniquely crafted beverages and genuine Midwestern hospitality.

The Pop Stand is in Harlan Indiana By recommendation, and I'm so happy to have found it, I present to you, The Pop Stand. The couple that opened this spot started out thinking they were going to sell mostly dirty sodas (I know it sounds funny, it's just a description for adding different flavors and sometimes cream to regular pop to create new flavors) They needed to do something a little extra and landed on selling pizzas, grinders, and salads. The pizza shown here is called the SR 37. Obvious if you know the area, but it stands for State route 37. It's similar to what someone might call a supreme. It has a few different items than standard. It has a nice mix of pepperoni, large pieces of sausage, onion, peppers, olives, a good sprinkle of crushed red pepper, and finally garlic. They make their own dough and cut all of the vegetables fresh daily. The bottom of the crust was a little light in color, but they use an 800 degree oven, so just a few seconds makes a huge difference. The crust was light and crispy with a good chew. My pizza was loaded with toppings but didn't feel obnoxiously heavy like some do. Check out the price on the menu. All their pizzas are 14 inch and this one was $13! I had to try a dirty soda while I was there. After some deliberation, there are so many choices, I ended up with the Marshmallow Man. It has mug root beer, vanilla, and cream. It doesn't come out in the prettiest color, but the flavor was excellent. The best way I can describe it is something like a melted root beer float. Absolutely try this one! Towards the end of my visit, Bethany brought out a drink flight. They're still working on finding the right cups and pricing for this. It was so cool to try four different flavors without committing to a whole drink. The final product should be worked out soon. They do offer free popcorn in the dining room and a nice selection of local along with some name brand potato chips. During lunch hours, they do sell pizza by the slice. As affordable as the pizzas are, I would buy a whole one and have leftovers. They are still pretty new, so be patient if the service isn't super quick. It's worth the wait. As you can see in the photos, there's also a very fresh patio with a nice wall to keep down some of the traffic noise. I'm pretty sure they said it's pet friendly. Have you visited The Pop Stand? Definitely give them a try. If you remember, tell them I sent you.

We finally got to try out the Pop Stand. We ordered the Susie Q (BBQ Chicken), without the pickles. It was excellent! My son ordered the pepperoni pizza and enjoyed it as well. My wife got the Tractor pop, which was Sprite w/Granny Smith Apple & Lime. She loved it!! We will be eating here again.

Wow, this place is amazing. Owners are fantastic people who are passionate about customer service and the quality of everything they offer. I’ve been there 4 times over the last 4 months and each and every time the experience is the same - 5 stars all the way around. I get my pizza extra crispy - fantastic! I was last there on a Thursday evening and every table inside was full - this is truly a gem in Harlan, Indiana!

Delightful experience! Went with our 5 year old granddaughter and had a fun, delicious meal. Had to make some choices at the counter: pizza/breadstick/sandwich; salad/dressings; soda drinks. Kept things simple with a 5 year old along and got garlic cheesy bread, which was terrific! Dipping sauce on the side. Husband and I shared a half Cobb salad- plenty for the 2 of us. We got it with an amazing raspberry vinaigrette which I would buy by the bottle, it was that good. Kept it simple with the drinks as we had made enough decisions, but later regretted not doing something fun. We had some free popcorn while we waited for the made fresh food and enjoyed the open, bright room. Old tin tiles and cove ceilings added to the charm. And the bathrooms were great! Well worth the trip to Harlan!! Loved it!! Terrific, patient workers who helped us decide. We will be back.

This little mom and pop shop is a true gem in Harlan. Originally intended as a specialty pop stand (hence the name) they have quickly become a great pizza place. They alway insure you get a quality product. The pizzas are as good as they are unique! I've never been disappointed by any that I've tried and I've tried most of them. Oh, and the soda options may be even more unique!

Delicious pizza! We got the Margarita pizza and a pepperoni and sausage pizza, both were made to perfection. The owners nailed the crust and sauces. Atmosphere is so refreshing, chairs are really comfortable (I'm 8 months pregnant and can spot an uncomfortable chair a mile away). The drinks were super yummy, we got the Peach Ring soda. They have a great looking outdoor seating area that will be awesome come warmer weather. Highly recommend you go! And then go again:)
